Shola Flowers
Shola flowers, as soon as they appeared in our assortment, became a product of choice for customers. They are completely natural, hand-crafted decorations that look great both solo and in floral compositions. They are a real treat not only for florists, but also for lovers of handicrafts. They will work perfectly as a gift.
Shola flowers - what are they and how are they created?
Shola flowers are handcrafted from the world's lightest wood. It comes from a plant called Aeschynomene, which is mainly found in South Asia - especially in India and Bangladesh. Aeschynomene grows wild in swampy, infertile areas. When dried, its wood has a light and spongy structure, making it easy to press and mold. As a result, it is commonly used to create everyday objects - including hats - and to produce decorative flowers.
How are Shola flowers made?
First, the hedge stems are cut into smaller pieces. Then, using a sharp tool, their outer, cortical layer is cut off. The next step is to cut off the thin, delicate patches of wood up to the core, located in the centre of the shoot. The thin wood leaves are then stacked, cut into pieces a few centimetres wide and tied with string or a rubber band so that they do not fall apart. This is necessary in order to then form them into flower petals by cutting the wood strips accordingly. This produces a dozen or even dozens of petals at a time. They are then sprayed with water to make them more malleable and attached to a thin stick called a pick using thread. What kind of flower is created depends entirely on the ingenuity of the person making it.
Shola flowers - why to choose them?
Shola flowers are undoubtedly a product worthy of attention. Created by hand from natural materials, they are nature-friendly and at the same time delight with their interesting appearance. They retain their original appearance for a very long time. Just like dried and stabilised plants, they are completely maintenance-free - they do not require water changes or stem pruning. Importantly, Shola flowers are resistant not only to time, but also to external factors. They do not droop or crumble. And in addition, they carry the power of floral and handicraft inspiration.
Shola flowers - care and storage?
As we mentioned, Shola flowers are completely maintenance-free. The only thing worth taking care of is their proper exposition. As these decorations are made of natural wood with hygroscopic properties, it is not recommended to display them in rooms with high humidity - such as the kitchen or bathroom. Dyed flowers should not be exposed to direct sunlight, as they may fade. It is worth adding that Shola flowers, although quite hardy, should not be touched frequently, as dirt and sweat from fingers can adversely affect their appearance. It is also advisable to regularly dust the decoration with a cool air dryer or a soft broom. It is also worth paying attention to the storage conditions for Shola flowers. They should be placed in a cardboard box in a dark, dry place
